Dhoni's retirement from tests: good or bad ?

look at dhoni FB Wall

Bad:

  •  It is a right decision, but coming at the wrong time. He should have resigned when the team was doing well in Test cricket or should have waited, taking the BCCI into confidence, for another series before bowing out with a series win.
  • It was even the subject of numerous tv debates, with hashtags such as "Is this the way for a captain to retire?' Is the tour over or has Dhoni retired while the tour is on? Pehle toh koi bataaye why has he retired from test cricket?it is bad for dhoni and team india. Captains like Stephen Fleming and Arjuna Ranatunga had been able to nudged players of middle-weight ability towards heavy-weight success. On the other hand, India have had the misfortune of seeing some incredible talents fade away with alarming consistency.
  •  Dhoni's decision to quit tests came just in time when team India is in the middle of an ongoing series against Australia. Dhoni should have at least led the team till the end of the series, about to finish with the fourth and final test in Sydney. He has captained India in 60 tests with 27 wins. He could have done better had the pressure been reduced.
  • As stated by former cricketers like Sunil Gavaskar and Sourav Ganguly, Dhoni should have continued playing the longer formats of the game even if he wasn't the captain. This could have relived his pressure and performance would have augmented benefiting the team greatly in future tests.
  • Instead of retiring completely from tests, Dhoni could have acted wisely and simply retired from the captaincy. This would have allowed him to play freely and he could have rejuvenated himself from the pressure. The way he gave up in the middle of the test series shows him as the sportsman who succumbed to pressure and criticism leaving his team at the hour of need.
Good:
  •  He has taken a right decision because it is always good to bow out gracefully than being shoved out because of poor form." Dhoni might have thought to fully focus on the World Cup. So it is the right decision
  •  It is not a surprising move. He was out of form since past few months. Rising competition to enter in a playing 11 is the major reason which took him to take this ideal decision. We (my friends) were discussing this during last test. Our prediction was right that dhoni need to take retirement to keep his place secure in ODI. Secure means without criticisms. Failure in one format can turn into stringent actions in other one. Now, if he fails to gain success in ODI then it's impact will be less on him. He is playing mind game. Indian ODI team will remain chennai gang for few months to come. Hopefully new aspiring youngsters will get their palce to prove themselves.
  • Constant pressure of performing in all the three formats got MS into the grip of under performing at the overseas tests and the good thing is that he could actually assess himself and took the toughest decision to pass the bat on to Virat Kohli.
  • I think Dhoni is a good captain. The record he has in one-day cricket, he is a good captain. But in Test conditions overseas, it's just fallen away a bit. This series is not over yet so maybe we can talk differently at the end of this series. Hopefully he can reinvent himself and find a way to lead this team forward
  • I think it’s right decision .it was not easy for a wicketkeepter-batsman to handle all the formats of game so successfully. Dhoni, currecntly visiting Australia, today surprised the cricket world with his sudden announcement of immediate retirement from Test cricket, making way for Virat Kohli to don the mantle of captaincy.
Conclusion:
We should respect the decision taken by one of the best captains of Team India. India saw the greatest of victories under his captaincy and when he silently retired from test series, it was also a decision for the betterment of the team. However, Dhoni could have continued playing till the end of the ongoing series instead of quitting in between.
